Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review the various approaches toward women¡¯s health across organizations in the global world and compare laws and functions of the government offices related to women¡¯s health. The focus of women¡¯s health has been expanding from sexual and reproductive health to health of women across lifespan with the consideration of the sociocultural factors although emphasis was still on reproductive health. In Korea, academics were approaching women¡¯s health with expanded concept while the law still limits women¡¯s health to reproductive healthy issues. In the U. S. women¡¯s health were partially discussed in the healthcare related acts for the protection of women right from the insurance and research acts to raise the gender specific view among scholars. In the U. S., Canada and Australia governmental offices of women¡¯s health were established and functioning to develop policy, gather data, provide healthcare, and promote research. Based on the analysis of Offices on women¡¯s health and related laws, establishment of Women¡¯s health office and its roles in Korea were discussed.
